Hi my loves, how’s it going? Are you all set to welcome fall? The fashion scene is currently flooded with reminiscences of the 90’s! Be it the overload of denim, the flared pants, deep red lips or the choker necklaces, they are all back in full effect. As a 90’s kid, I do have faint memories of how I have rocked some of these back then. But back in those years, I had a mental block. Standing in front of the mirror I would ask myself, am I big..? Oh how I have cursed my genes! I remember avoiding anything that accentuated my hips so skinny jeans, pinafore dresses and dungarees, anything fitted was out of the picture. I even remember wearing Men’s shorts at home which would cover my curves. And it’s only after a couple of years of joining college and getting noticed for an ample bottom, that I began to embrace my natural shape. And yet it took me some more years after my college to be beyond comfortable with what I was born with! Getting over it meant I could start wearing clothes that I had avoided for years & that almost made dressing up a little more exciting.
Coming back to today’s post I’m wearing Pinafore dress which is a fall staple yet versatile and classic. A pinafore dress is sleeveless and is meant to to be worn over a blouse. This striped pinafore from Jabong formed the perfect base for this look. My initial thoughts were to go with the sneaker but since its the beginning of winters in Delhi, I instead decided to add some modern glam by pairing it with black boots. A plain casual white tee adds that chic and casual vibe to the look. I have kept the jewellery minimal.
The options for styling a pinafore are endless. In summers you can wear them with shirts, sheer and lace numbers. While for winters wear it over a turtle neck tee or sweater with stockings (fish net stockings look amazing!) and boots. These dresses are great for travel too! For accessories, add chokers or geometric neck pieces to create that feminine vibe. I actually really like the look & I hope you guys enjoyed it too! For those of you who can relate to my teenage self, a pinafore dress is a must on days when you don’t feel like adulting! Also, the sooner you get over your mental block and insecurities, the more you’ll fall in love with yourself. Enjoy the pictures and good luck!
